One Horizon is a humanitarian and project-based organisation whose mission is to alleviate poverty. One Horizon wanted to find a way to take more sustainable programs into more communities. One solution was to launch the tourism arm of One Horizon. One Horizon’s tours have improved our ability to expand its sustainable programs. It not only offers travelers rewarding experiences, but the fees earned from the Go Granny Go, Empowering Mothers and One More Bite tours help fund the specific sustainable programs that underpins its work with women, grandmas and families. And long before the terms Responsible and Sustainable Tourism became in vogue by multinational tour groups, One Horizon was doing its humanitarian work in South Africa and Kenya years before. The word ‘profit’ is not a part of the motivating factors of One Horizon but the words “respect, well-being, dignity and happy futures” are. Hence our focus on the cultural, social, economic and environmental sustainability of our programs and communities has never abated and goes on.
