Nairobi National Park has welcomed a new and rare species of white rhino. The news about the birth of the young rhino was shared by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on Saturday, February 15. “We are thrilled to report the birth of a white rhino in Nairobi National Park. The lucky mother rhino had gone into hiding from hawk-eyed rangers only for her to resurface with a three-day-old calf. Welcome to the family baby rhino,” tweeted KWS.

On the one hand it appears they are active social citizens who see themselves as change agents. On the other hand, they may be ignoring the sheer bread and butter issues of óvertourism’. Whether its grandma sitting on her 3 seat lounge as she takes it home on a motorbike, or the acrobatic antics of a bus conductor, transport in Nairobi can be a life threatening scenario. One Horizon is such a great organisation that helps poor communities establish sustainable futures in Kenya. Our guide, Carol took us to a village of the Kikuyu tribe on the outskirts of Nairobi to get a first hand look at their way if life. We sat with them, cooked and ate with them. They told us stories (translated from Swahili by our guide), they braided my hair, they hugged us and wouldn’t let go. It was a heart warming day.

Building new classrooms changes the lives of disadvantaged Kenyan children who come into One Horizon’s orbit. In many of our communities, parents either struggle to send their children to school or, in their despair, just give up.
