Dahabiya Cruising & Village Visits
Overview
With One Horizon you can combine the pleasures of cruising the Nile and visiting local community projects. The experience begins and ends in Cairo and you can visit 4 different communities over 4 days. One of the advantages of the dahabiya is that it can anchor at any location along the Nile and that’s why it’s perfect for combining visits to One Horizon’s local communities and villages. You can avoid the traffic in Cairo and enjoy the sites from the Nile.
A Great Way To Travel
A Dahabiya is a traditional two-masted sailing boat. And in Arabic it is translated as ‘a golden one’. These vessels were common in Egypt in the early part of the 19th century up until the 1870’s and were used by people for travelling and also by the Egyptian monarchy and elites for their socialising. In those days they were considered to be the first class method for travelling. Today they still represent a great way for getting around, albeit at a leisurely pace and the way to see the real Egypt. On our excursions to our communities, your Dahabiya can draw into beaches and landing places close to the villages you are visiting. It can anchor at any location along the river. This gives more options for impromptu stops and activities like lunch on the beach, swimming and other adventures. Every step of the way our guides are with you.
Wind Power Only and Luxury
To this day, Dahabiyas do not have engines but rely on wind power. And to enhance customers enjoyment and pleasure, solar powered batteries provide air-conditioned comfort and other great amenities. Equipped with modern facilities, dahabiya house 3-12 cabins each with private ensuites. It’s a great way for families and groups to enjoy the views of Cairo and its frenetic pace and the villages dotted along the route. The staff go above and beyond to ensure that our customers are looked after.
